Beijing has installed defibrillators in all stations serving subway Lines 1, 2, and 13 to increase public safety.

Professionals provide training in how to use the automated external defibrillator, or AED, at Huoying station on Line 13 on Friday.

A total of 58 AEDs have been deployed along the three subway lines, so that each station is equipped with one, according to officials in the Huoying station service center.

To ensure the safe use of AEDs, the Beijing Subway operator, along with the Emergency Medical Center, have carried out a series of first-aid training sessions since 2019, allowing workers to gain skills with AEDs or in administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation in case of a medical emergency with a passenger, such as a heart attack.

About 50 workers at Huoying station received training in the use of AEDs and other medical supplies on Friday.

"To help a heart attack victim reestablish normal heartbeat rhythms, you need to use the device called AED," an emergency trainer surnamed Wang said. "All you need to do is to follow the steps shown on the device."

More than 1,400 staff members have completed the training and are qualified to use AEDs.

The Beijing Subway has taken multiple measures to promote information about first-aid and safety, including conducting regular emergency drills and tapping volunteers.

It plans to continue strengthening emergency medical treatment mechanisms and contingencies. It has also called on the public to provide first-aid to victims and to cooperate with subway station workers when emergencies occur.
