The future of the Internet should not and cannot be controlled by a few countries, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said on Thursday, adding that the so-called Alliance for the Future of the Internet, proposed by the U.S., will split the Internet and seek technological monopoly, restricting and depriving countries of the right to choose partners and develop the Internet.
China opposes the politicization of ideology, which is harmful to scientific and technological innovation, Wang also said.
The Summit for Democracy, to be held by the U.S. on December 9-10, has nothing to do with international public interest, but serves the interests of the U.S., safeguards its hegemony and engages in political manipulation under the banner of democracy, which will only be opposed by the international community, Wang added.
