Landslide kills 9 in Lüliang, Shanxi Province

A total of nine people were killed in a landslide in Lüliang, North China’s Shanxi Province, on Monday, the local authorities announced.

The landslide took place before dawn at 4:57 am on Monday, burying nine villagers in Zaolin town in the Lishi district before they were confirmed dead.

All the bodies of the victims have been found. The rescue was concluded in the afternoon.

Local villagers said there was no rainfall before the landslide. The accident left some damaged houses, furnitures and living supplies in the mud.

The landslide occurred on the Loess Plateau, a typical landscape in north China’s Shanxi Province. 

Local officials have started investigations into the cause of the accident as well as measures to cope with the aftermath.
