China hopes more people tell the true story of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region candidly, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said on Friday during a daily press conference.

Zhao noted that China Global Television Network (CGTN) had recently released a new Xinjiang-themed documentary that revealed the truth about people's lives in the region and showed a very different image to that described in Western media.

The documentary, Beyond the Mountains: Life in Xinjiang, reflects the current living conditions of people of all ethnic groups, Zhao said.

Xinjiang enjoys prosperity and stability, and people there are leading a safe and happy life, the spokesperson said, adding that there have been no violent terrorist cases for over four consecutive years in Xinjiang.

China welcomes friends from around the world to visit Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, he added.
