Zhang Wei and his wife were still getting accustomed to a new life in Mianyang when their two-and-a-half-year-old-daughter was diagnosed with leukemia, according to China News Serivce.

One day, Xiaolan’s nose started bleeding for no apparent reason. “I just felt something was wrong,” Zhang said.

He took her to a local hospital where her blood was tested. It was explained to Zhang that his daughter had a low blood platelet count, a common symptom of acute myeloid leukemia.

Xiaolan would need special treatment at a hospital in Chengdu, and it would not be cheap.

Zhang and his brother worked at the same delivery company.  His brother put the word out among their coworkers, without telling Zhang. Word spread quickly and 72 hours later, some 1,300 people had donated 40,000 yuan to help cover Xiaolan’s medical expenses.

When Zhang’s daughter was in the hospital in Mianyang, his job performance never faltered.

Before the family left for Chengdu, Zhang worked incessantly. There were days when he would deliver 20 orders, covering distances up to 100 kilometers in one shift.

Tang Yunxia, head of the US company’s food takeout and delivery service, told reporters that both brothers worked very hard and said, “There weren't many who could keep up with them.”

When Zhang learned his company had donated to his daughter’s medical treatment, he was overcome with emotion.

“I was still fairly new at the company, so I was moved by the show of support and donations we received” Zhang said.

Once they arrived in Chengdu, they took Xiaolan to the emergency room at West China Sichuan Hospital.

“We hope that all of the children will be admitted to the hospital as soon as possible for treatment,” Kang told reporters.  She said that through the goodwill of others from all walks of life, children should be able to receive the treatment they need and enjoy a healthy and happy new life.
