A total of 200 million yuan (about 29.09 million U.S. dollars) has been raised since 2012 and the money was used to aid more than 56,000 college students, according to the city's education bureau.

"The city pays high attention to the role of funding students in poverty alleviation, and has developed an assistance model which is government-led and features wide participation," said Zhang Gengrong, director of students' financial assistance office of Lhasa.

Lhasa funded 152 college students with 1.5 million yuan in the first half of 2019.

"The city will continue working out various policies for aiding students to make sure no student will be deprived of education due to financial difficulties," said Zhang.
