Macao celebrates National Day with flag-raising ceremony

Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) government on Tuesday has hosted a flag-raising ceremony at the Golden Lotus Square to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

Officials of the Macao SAR Government, officials of the central government's representative offices in the Macao SAR, the Macao Garrison of the People's Liberation Army and people from across the community attended the ceremony.

People from all walks of life across Macao, including students and youth representatives of various ethnic groups, gathered at the square and watched a live broadcast of China's National Day mass parade in Beijing. 

"70 is a very special number to us, Chinese people," A local resident told Xinhua reporter after watching the ceremony, "I wish our country prosperity and Macao a thriving future."

After the ceremony, over 18,000 people participated in the 2019 National Day commemorative running contest. 

Meanwhile in Beijing, Macao SAR Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On has led a delegation of more than 150 people to participate in the National Day celebration activities.

In Hong Kong, a flag-raising ceremony cum National Day reception was also held at Golden Bauhinia Square and Convention and Exhibition Center respectively to celebrate China's 70th birthday.
