Macao's cross-border vehicle traffic plunges by 81.5 pct in July

MACAO, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Macao's cross-border vehicle traffic in July slid by 81.5 percent year-on-year to 83,837 trips, the special administrative region's statistic service said here on Wednesday.

The latest report from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) showed that attributable to the adjustment of quarantine measures, light automobile trips surged by 117.5 percent month-to-month to 56,214 in July. But it still represented a year-on-year decrease of 85.9 percent.

On the other hand, heavy truck trips dropped by just 6.0 percent year-on-year to 27,583 due to a continued demand for freight services.

In the first seven months of 2020, cross-border vehicle traffic reduced by 67.6 percent year-on-year to 992,525 trips.

Arriving and departing commercial flights at the Macao International Airport in July declined by 95.2 percent year-on-year to 309 trips.

In the first seven months of 2020, arriving and departing commercial flights fell by 77.5 percent year-on-year to 9,470 trips.

The licensed motor vehicles in Macao totaled 240,801 at the end of July 2020, up by 1.0 percent year-on-year. The new registration of motor vehicles in July increased by 12.4 percent year-on-year to 1,270.

In the first seven months of 2020, new registration of motor vehicles went down by 4.1 percent year-on-year to 6,563.

The number of traffic accidents in July totaled 888, with 347 injuries. In the first seven months of 2020, there were 5,129 traffic accidents, involving 1,862 victims and three of them were killed. Enditem
