MACAO, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- The total merchandise import to Macao expanded by 56.6 percent year on year to 13.43 billion patacas (about 1.68 billion U.S. dollars) in November 2020, the special administrative region's statistical service said on Thursday.
The latest report from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) showed that the imports of beauty, cosmetic and skincare products, perfumes, and handbags and wallets soared by 381.1 percent, 181.7 percent and 78.6 percent respectively.
The imports of articles for casinos, fuels and lubricants and mobile phones declined by 64.8 percent, 36.1 percent and 11.6 percent respectively, the DSEC report added.
From January to November this year, the total value of merchandise import declined by 0.5 percent year on year to 80.80 billion patacas, it said.
Analyzed by place of origin, the imports from the Chinese mainland decreased by 15.0 percent year on year to 23.78 billion patacas in the first 11 months of 2020, while imports from the European Union (EU) increased by 9.4 percent to 24.33 billion patacas.
Besides, the imports from the Belt and Road Initiative participating countries and the Portuguese-speaking countries reduced by 9.5 percent and 19.7 percent respectively to 12.73 billion patacas and 623 million patacas.
From January to November this year, the imports of consumer goods went up 5.3 percent to 59.14 billion patacas, with imports of beauty, cosmetic and skincare products surging by 178.2 percent.
Meanwhile, the imports of watches and gold jewellery dropped by 33.9 percent and 53.1 percent respectively.
