BEIJING, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- A mainland spokesperson on Tuesday admonished Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authority for its attempts to trick people on the island into believing its distorted facts of the cross-Strait relations.

Ma Xiaoguang, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the comments while responding to a question about the pre-Spring Festival address made by the leader of Taiwan, claiming the key to peace in the Taiwan Strait is in the mainland's hands.

The DPP authority should take full responsibility for the current status of the cross-Strait relations, Ma said. He noted that the DPP's refusal to accept the 1992 Consensus, their obstruction of cross-Strait exchanges, and colluding with external forces for "independence" have imposed obstacles to cross-Strait exchanges.

Ma attributed peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait from 2008 to 2016 to the cross-Strait acceptance of the 1992 Consensus and joint opposition to "Taiwan independence."

Ma urged the DPP authority to stop seeking secession and return to the common political foundation of the 1992 Consensus.
