BEIJING, May 20 (Xinhua) -- A mainland spokesperson Thursday urged Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authority to focus more on controlling the COVID-19 pandemic rather than playing political tricks and scapegoating the mainland.

Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the remarks when responding to a media query. The query regarded the DPP authority accusing the mainland of distributing false information, undermining its credibility, and hampering Taiwan's response to the recent COVID-19 pandemic on the island.

Such accusations have once again illustrated the DPP authority's notorious knack for cooking up lies, diverting public attention and shifting blames, said Zhu.

The mainland is highly sympathetic towards Taiwan compatriots who are now facing a severe pandemic, and is ready to do everything in its power to help them pull through these difficult times, added Zhu.
