Zhang Jingxian, then the party secretary of Zhanghezhuang Village, decided to find the hometowns and families of the martyrs in 2008. In this picture, he prepared to send out new letters.
Zhang verified the military units that the martyrs used to belong to, and collected personal information of 86 martyrs in a roster found at a history museum of the units. The picture shows the information he collected over the years.
He started to send letters one after the other to the addresses from the roster since 2014. In the picture, Zhang was organizing the letters that were sent back.
Due to the passage of time, many addresses have changed, and most of the letters were sent back. In the picture, Zhang showed one of the letters.
With the help of relevant authorities, Zhang has found the families for 11 martyrs so far. Zhang was talking with the sister in law of a martyr named Xu Yandun in Xintai, Shandong Province, on June 21, 2016.
“Helping to find the families is a race with time. I will continue doing this and help the souls of the martyrs get back to their hometowns,” Zhang said. (Compiled by Zhan Huilan)
