A snapshot in which dozens of reporters turned their lens toward a Hong Kong police officer who was performing his duties has aroused strong indignation among netizens. During the past two months, facing various protests and other violent movements, Hong Kong police have maintained a tolerant and restrained attitude to sustaining social order and protecting citizens in a civilized way. Only when violence occurs that endangers the safety and security of people nearby will the police turn to moderately forceful ways to prevent these incidents from further escalating. Some Hong Kong local media and Western media choose to neglect the radical protesters but tend to provoke the policemen and accuse them groundlessly, demonizing them and turning a blind eye to the facts, which is another form of “soft violence.”
