The celebration of the compound's opening began with official announcements on Friday, as the organizers prepared to welcome around 10,000 athletes, coaches and officials from more than 100 countries to stay in just over 1,950 suites during the 10-day event in the capital of Hubei Province.

The athletes' village is located along the banks of Huangjia Lake in the Jiangxia district of Wuhan. The total construction area of the facility is 558,000 square meters, and it can accommodate more than 10,000  athletes and officials.

China's national flag was hoisted as the country's anthem played in the background.

The amenities offered at the athletes' village include medical centers, fitness clubs, banks, convenience stores and souvenir shops, which are all expected to help ensure a comfortable stay for everyone making the trip to Wuhan.

The Military World Games is the top sports gala for military personnel. This year's edition will feature 329 competition events in 27 categories, the biggest number ever in the history of the competition. In former editions, there was a maximum of 24 events. While table tennis was added to the competition category, gymnastics and tennis are demonstration sports in this year's games.
