The two sides held "frank, efficient and constructive discussions" on the economic and trade issues of common concern and made "substantial progress," Gao said, adding that to meet domestic needs, Chinese companies have been importing products from the US in accordance with the principle of marketization.

At present, China and the US are stepping up consultations to try to implement the trade agreement, Gao said.

"China's position, principles, and goals for China-US trade talks have never changed. The ultimate goal of the two sides' consultations is to stop the trade war and eliminate all tariffs. This is beneficial to China, the United States, and the world," Gao said at the press conference.
