Xu Jiaqing, one of the survivors of the Nanjing Massacre, passed away Monday morning at the age of 96, according to the Memorial Hall of the Victims in the Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders.

The total number of registered survivors has been reduced to 64.
Born on February 8, 1935, Xu said in his testimony that he witnessed the Japanese distribute the "Certificate of Good Citizenship" in the safety zone.
The Nanjing Massacre took place when Japanese troops captured the city on December 13, 1937. More than 300,000 Chinese civilians and unarmed soldiers were killed.
