Wu Lidi, a 48-year-old cleaner at Nanjing University, conveys her rich inner world on the blackboards with chopsticks and brushes in her hand, and optimism and passion for art in her heart.
In 2014, the students who were responsible for blackboard paintings had not returned to school. Wu volunteered, starting her extraordinary painting career.
By virtue of her paintings, Wu became known gradually among students for her talent and was a celebrity on campus.
Wu is responsible for cleaning of an entire student apartment building, and she has not given up painting under the busy workload.
"I'm willing to do it because it makes me happy,” said Wu. For her, cleaning is a way to make a living, while painting is a reason for living.
In March 2023, students from Nanjing University held a painting exhibition for Wu, entitled "Cleaner Wu's 'Spring.'"
The blackboard paintings that were supposed to be erased every season were kept via cameras, seen and understood by more people. (Compiled by Tai Yixin)
