People’s Daily interviewed Leela Mani Paudyal prior to Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Nepal.

Paudyal said cross-border connectivity would include airways, roads, telecommunications, cultural communication and power.

He added that China has made big advancements in agricultural development, as more than 60 percent of Nepalese people are involved in agriculture and are not fully developed.

He explained that Nepal wants to learn from China to develop his country’s agricultural products and productivity.

He also highlighted expectations for bilateral cooperation in power connectivity. “Nepal has a great potential to produce power but has not fully harnessed it. We also have expectations from China to harness power for development.”

Portraying China as a good neighbor and friend, the ambassador warmly welcomed the Chinese to Nepal. “We have a variety of tourism resources that can satisfy different types of Chinese people. We invite the Chinese to visit Nepal and contribute to our tourism. We want to develop together and create a community of shared future.”

Nepal is the best place to seek adventures and for those who fancy the blue sky, green mountains and stay close to nature. The Chinese can enjoy natural beauty, cultural diversity, and most welcoming Nepalese people here, he added.

He also mentioned other areas of cooperation in the future. “We also want to learn from China’s fast development in digital technology by developing mobile payments and other digital systems so that people’s lives can become more convenient and governments more efficient."

The ambassador pointed out that China’s experience in poverty alleviation is worthy of learning, as Nepal had a substantial number of people living in poverty.
