In a green development model city evaluation hosted in Foshan, Guangdong province, by the China Internet Information Center, on Dec. 27, Luohu was recognized as a model habitable district with a well-preserved natural environment.

It is the only district of Shenzhen that has won the honor, demonstrating Luohu’s achievements in ecological civilization construction.

About half of the area under Luohu’s jurisdiction, 78.75 square kilometers, is designated as an ecological preservation zone, and the district’s forest coverage rate is 51.86%, higher than the city’s 39.78%.

About 90.68% of the wetlands have been placed under protection in Luohu, compared with the provincial 52%.

Luohu saw clean air on 97.8% of the days last year, and its air quality is better than that of Singapore and Hong Kong.

The district’s energy consumption per unit of its gross domestic product has been the lowest in the city for nine years in a row.

Local residents’ environmental complaints have decreased over the past five years.
