New progress has been made in purchasing US agricultural produce by Chinese enterprises, including purchasing millions of tons of US soybeans, said Chinese authorities on Sunday.

Some Chinese companies have inquired US suppliers about purchasing soybeans, cotton, pork, sorghum and other agricultural products since July 19. The relevant enterprises have applied for exemptions from tariffs imposed on the agricultural products imported from the US, and the State Council Tariff Commission will follow the procedures, according to the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM).

Chinese enterprises will continue to make inquiries regarding the purchasing of US agricultural products based on the needs of the domestic market. It is expected that there will be new purchases of agricultural products as long as the American agricultural products are of good quality, and with reasonable prices, said Chinese authorities.

Relevant Chinese authorities also expressed that the US should take concrete measures to implement the relevant commitments and create favorable conditions for bilateral economic and trade cooperation.

The United States recently announced the exemption of 110 items of Chinese industrial imports from additional tariffs, implementing the consensus reached by the two heads of state during the G20 Osaka summit.

The two countries will hold the 12th round of high-level economic and trade consultations on July 30 and 31 in Shanghai.
