There's no evidence that animals or pets, such as dogs or cats, can be infected with the new coronavirus at present, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
However, it's always a good idea to wash hands with soap and water after contact with pets. This protects one against various common bacteria such as E. coli and Salmonella that can pass between pets and humans, WHO added.
