As Beijing clears medium and high-risk areas for COVID-19, Zhangjiajie in central China's Hunan restored public transportation, many previous lock-down areas were reopened, as China gradually controls the recent outbreak of the Delta variant.

An expert said the outbreak will soon peak.

Zhang Boli, president of Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, said the turning point for this resurgence of coronavirus is about to come. "As I previously predicted, the turning point may appear near the end of August, when the country will tame the outbreak," said Zhang, who's also an academician from the Chinese Academy of Engineering on Monday, in an interview.

"As long as epidemic containment measures are strictly implemented, normal travel is possible during the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays", Zhang said.

He said it's highly possible to totally control the resurgence of the COVID-19 epidemic given the fine situation now. The nation has created containment measures of efficiency to identify, isolate and control any possible outbreak.

"We must learn from the epidemic resurgence and never be caught unprepared since risk has not yet been totally cleared. As we have reached a stage of stalemate during epidemic prevention and control, society should continue to take strict precautions and guard against arrogance and impetuosity", he noted.

He stressed that individuals need to be cautious, and public venues need to implement strict COVID-19 prevention and control measures.
