The number of students dropping out of school plummeted to 2,419 by September 15, compared to around 600,000 last year, China's Ministry of Education announced Wednesday.

Each student has his or her own record, with a cancelation system in case he/she changes his/her mind. Among last year’s 600,000 dropouts, 200,000 were from underprivileged backgrounds who were persuaded to return to school.

In 2019, the net enrollment rate for primary education was 99.94 percent, and the gross enrollment ratio in high school was 102.6 percent.
