4.3 percent

China's job market remained stable over the first eight months of the year, with a low unemployment rate, official data showed Wednesday.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said the urban jobless rate in 37 major cities was 4.3 percent. The monthly jobless rate data from urban areas is released to help the government improve control over the economy at the macroeconomic level and provide information for making employment policies.

The statistic was first introduced in 2014 to better reflect the job market and serve as a supplement to the registered urban unemployment rate compiled by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security.
