China says it opposes military intervention in Venezuela

China opposes military intervention in Venezuela, said Ma Zhaoxu, China's permanent representative to the UN, at a Security Council meeting on Tuesday.

The meeting was at the request of the United States, which attempted to push for the UN Security Council to vote this week on a draft resolution calling for elections in Venezuela and the delivery of humanitarian aid.

China opposes using the issue of humanitarian assistance for political purposes to create disability or even turbulence inside Venezuela and in the neighboring region, which serves no party’s interest, the Chinese ambassador said. (CGTN)

India says 2 air force pilots killed as aircraft crashes in Indian-controlled Kashmir

A pilot and a co-pilot of Indian Air Force (IAF) were killed after a military jet crashed in Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"Two bodies have been found at crash site and most probably they are pilot and co-pilot," said a senior local government official.

Meanwhile, Pakistan army said the Pakistan Air Force has shot down two Indian fighter jets inside Pakistani airspace and ground troops arrested one pilot of the destroyed jet.

The incident came a day after the Pakistani army said Indian fighter jets violated the Line of Control on Tuesday and released payloads in the Pakistani side.

A Chinese foreign ministry spokesman urged both India and Pakistan to exercise restraint to avoid escalating tensions. (Xinhua & People’s Daily app)

Most US firms in China see higher revenue

Most US companies with operations in China said they have continued to see their revenues grow in China and urge governments on both sides to foster more sustainable economic ties.

This is an annual survey published on Tuesday by the American Chamber of Commerce in China.

Despite trade tensions, China remains a high priority market for the majority of US companies surveyed, the report said. (China Daily)

US House votes to end Trump’s national emergency

The US House of representatives passed a resolution to end the national emergency declared by President Donald Trump. 

The latest vote in the House will now send the resolution to the Senate. At least three Republican Senators have openly said they will support the Democrat-sponsored resolution. 

The White House wrote to lawmakers threatening to veto the legislation. The letter said blocking the emergency declaration would undermine the administration’s ability to "respond effectively to the ongoing crisis at the Southern Border". (People's Daily app & AP)

20 killed in fire at Cairo train station

Egypt state TV said at least 20 people have been killed and more than 40 others were injured after a major fire erupted at the main train station in Cairo.

The fire is said to have been triggered by an explosion of a fuel tank on a speeding train that was heading into the Ramsis station in downtown Cairo.

The death toll is expected to rise.  (AP)

Mainland prepares for supplying water, electricity to Kinmen, Matsu

Fujian Province on the Chinese mainland is prepared for supplying electricity to the Kinmen and Matsu islands, said An Fengshan, a spokesperson with the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office.

Fujian also planned to supply water to Matsu. The province has finished the planning and conducted preliminary preparation. 

The mainland will also work to promote infrastructure connectivity among Fujian, Kinmen and Matsu in other sectors such as gas supply and building bridges, An said. (Xinhua)

China's Tiananmen Square enters 5G era

The Tiananmen Square in Beijing has received a full coverage of 5G signal after several 5G stations became available.

These stations will for the first time serve the news coverage of the upcoming "Two Sessions" by China Media Group (CMG).

The Tiananmen Square area was listed by the Beijing branch of China Unicom in the first batch for 5G construction after the Central Economic Work Conference said to accelerate the commercial use of 5G networks in last December.

With better signal and faster download time, visitors can enjoy high-speed Internet access and smooth mobile payment in large crowds. (CGTN)
