Chinese FM says China firmly supports Trump-Kim meeting

Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi says China firmly supports a meeting between US President Donald Trump and DPRK top leader Kim Jong-un.

He says direct contact and dialogue between the top leaders of the two nations are key to solving the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.

He added that China expects the meeting to be held as scheduled and achieve success.

DPRK to reconsider the upcoming summit with US

DPRK Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Choe Son-hui says in case the US continues to cling to unlawful and outrageous acts against the DPRK’s goodwill, she will recommend that the country’s leadership reconsider the DPRK-US summit.

Choe says US Vice President Mike Pence made unbridled and impudent remarks that DPRK might end up like Libya, and that a military option for DPRK never came off the table. 

Choe added that the DPRK will neither beg the US for dialogue nor take the trouble to persuade them if they do not want to sit together with the DPRK.

Chinese urges common efforts to expand Sino-US cooperation

China urges common efforts to expand cooperation with the United States.

Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi says China and the US should work together to make the cooperation list longer and one for problems shorter and shorter.

Speaking at a press conference with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo after their meeting, Wang said their meeting was "frank and deep-going.”

China unveils plans to deepen reform, opening-up in FTZs

China publishes plans to further deepen reform and opening-up in pilot free trade zones of three coastal areas.

This, to improve the business environment and to further open up to the world.

China’s cabinet, the State Council, says the reform in FTZs in Guangdong, Tianjin and Fujian will focus on high-quality development, supply-side structural reform, institutional innovation and risk prevention.

UN marks 15th anniversary of anti-corruption convention

The United Nations celebrates the 15th anniversary of the adoption for the UN Convention against Corruption and its international efforts to stamp out crime.

The meeting reached a consensus to improve the role of the convention, strengthen practical cooperation among countries, and take effective measures to prevent and combat corruption.

The Chinese delegation says fighting corruption is a just cause and is the common aspiration and voice of people of all countries.

China committed to promote imports: MOC

China's promise to the US to reduce the trade surplus remains unchanged.

That’s according to a spokesman of China's Ministry of Commerce.

The spokesman says China opposes abuse of domestic laws by the United States.

He was referring to Washington's Section 232 investigation into imports of automobiles and the possible ramifications of the US move.

He also said China is committed to its long-standing policy of promoting imports and is willing to welcome goods and services from across the world, including the United States.

Building bikeways - Beijing’s plan to reduce traffic

And Beijing says it will construct a cycling road for those who wish to ride between their home and workplace and avoid being crammed into peak-hour subways and buses.

Construction on the bicycle-only road will start in September and will be completed by June next year.

The new cycling road will cover 6.5 kilometres and provide cyclists a route through heavily populated areas in northwest Beijing. 

The road will also have no crossings or traffic lights.
