China says UN member-states are welcome to jointly utilize its future China Space Station.

The country's UN Ambassador says public and private organizations can identify their appropriate models of cooperation on board the station.

China rejects US accusations on technology transfer as baseless

Chinese Ambassador to the World Trade Organization Zhang Xiangchen says the United States is one of the main beneficiaries of technology transfer.

Zhang added that China, as a developing country, is one of the main export destinations of US technology.

He explained that US investigations provided no evidence that China's law stipulated that foreign companies should transfer technology to Chinese partners, nor did it provide evidence on the alleged violation of China's WTO commitment not to use the transfer of technology as a prerequisite for foreign investment to access its market. Burkina Faso President Kabore invited to attend China-Africa cooperation summit

China invites Burkina Faso President Marc Christian Kabore to the China-Africa cooperation summit in September in Beijing.

Burkina Faso Foreign Minister Alpha Barry says his country intends to deepen cooperation with China and commit to the one-China principle.

Burkina Faso recently resumed diplomatic relations with China.

It’s the fourth country to cut ties with Taiwan since Tsai Ing-wen came to office. (CGTN)

DPRK official heads for US: report

A senior official of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea heads to the United States for working-level talks.

Senior DPRK official Kim Yong-chol is headed to the US presumably for talks on a possible summit between DPRK's top leader Kim Jong-un and US President Donald Trump.

The trip is part of a flurry of diplomacy as preparations gather pace for the on-again, off-again summit between US President Trump and DPRK's Kim in Singapore on June 12. (Xinhua, with inputs from AFP)

Cuba to amend constitution to extend economic reforms

Cuba will seek to amend its constitution to further open up its economy.

But authorities there say they won't modify the "character of socialism.”

Former president Raul Castro introduced reforms in 2011 to open the top-heavy, centralized economy to small private businesses and foreign investment.

The changes resulted in a burst of activity in the first years.  

But the changes did not unleash the hoped-for economic takeoff. (CGTN)

Chinese prosecutor charges knife attack suspect 

A Chinese prosecutor has charged a knife attack suspect with intentional homicide as the death toll in the attack on middle school students rose to nine in Northwest China's Shaanxi Province.

Charged was Zhao Zewei for intentional homicide.

Zhao allegedly attacked 19 students near the No. 3 Middle School in Mizhi County on April 27. 

Zhao was detained by police later that day.

No details on a motive for the attack have been made available. (Xinhua)

6.9% of teenagers smoke, 180 million children hit by passive smoking

And a new study shows 180 million children in China are harmed by passive smoking.

This, as close to seven percent of Chinese teenagers smoke.

Eighteen cities have imposed a smoking ban in public places.

A health official admitted the country's target of reducing the smoking rate among people over 15 years old to less than 20 percent by 2030 still has a long way to go. (Global Times)
