China delivers parts for 'artificial sun' reactor

China delivers core components to the "artificial sun" reactor project.

Experts said it contributes to the peaceful use of nuclear energy and mankind's sustainable development.

The China National Nuclear Corporation delivered the magnet support components to the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor project in Southwest China's Guizhou Province.

The components will then be transferred to the experimental reactor facility in France. (Xinhua)

Trump meets Singapore PM ahead of summit with Kim Jong-un

US President Donald Trump meets Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong a day before his meeting with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea leader Kim Jong-un.

Trump arrived in Singapore on Sunday from the G7 Summit in Canada.

He says his meeting with Kim "will not be wasted" and is a "one time opportunity”.

The historic summit will take place at 9 am local time on June 12 at the Capella Hotel on Sentosa Island in Singapore. (People's Daily app)

People's Daily launches English language App 2.0

People's Daily launches the new version of its English language app.

The launch comes four days ahead of the newspaper’s 70th anniversary.

About 300 representatives from the government, diplomatic corps, media and academe attended the launch in Beijing.

People’s Daily says the English app is committed to providing the world timely reports on China's most important events, and an authoritative interpretation of China's policies and concepts. (People's Daily app)

Hospital for conservation in Palace Museum opens to public

The Hospital for Cultural Relics, a state-of-the-art preservation center designed to protect and treat national treasures at Beijing's Palace Museum, opened to the public on a trial basis on Saturday.

The first group of 40 visitors saw how experts preserve precious objects.

More than two dozen volunteers discussed the preservation process with the visitors. (Xinhua)

US F-15 fighter jet crashes into sea off Japan's Okinawa

A US F15 fighter jet crashes in waters off Japan’s southern island of Okinawa.

That’s where the bulk of US forces in Japan are based.

The jet crashed during a routine training mission on Monday.

A statement says the pilot ejected successfully and was recovered by search and rescue crews.

Many residents of Okinawa associate the US military bases with crime, accidents and pollution and want them moved off the island.

A series of emergency landings and parts falling from US military aircraft have highlighted safety concerns. (Reuters)

WHO predicts Ebola outbreak in DR Congo could end soon

The director-general of the World Health Organization says he believes a swift end could be put to the outbreak of Ebola in northwestern DR Congo.

This comes 21 days after the disease broke out.

At least 27 people have died since the outbreak.  (CGTN)

Almost all poor villages in China to access Internet by 2020

And China is planning to provide Internet access to almost all of its poor villages in the next three years.

This, as part of efforts to narrow the urban-rural digital gap.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology says it will provide broadband and 4G data network to the villages, and encourage telecom operators to offer special discounts on network charges to provide quality Internet services at a lower cost. (Xinhua)
