SCO’s increasing approval in the international community

Leaders of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) are traveling to Qingdao, a scenic Chinese coastal city for a summit over the weekend set to open a new chapter in the history.

As one of the world’s largest international organizations, the SCO covers one-third of the world’s population, and has a total GDP exceeding $16 trillion after its first expansion in 2017.

The SCO Summit 2018 is attracting worldwide expectation about China’s role in the world.

Trump says willing to invite Kim to US if summit goes well

US President Donald Trump said Thursday that he is willing to invite North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to the United States for further talks if negotiations in Singapore go well. Trump made the remarks at a joint press briefing in the White House with visiting Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Trump said that Kim's personal letter to him was a very warm and nice one, and that he appreciated it very much.

The US president also said he would like to see the normalization of ties once mutual concerns were resolved. (Xinhua)

QS Rankings 2019 place Tsinghua University among top 20 in the world

QS world university rankings 2019 has ranked Beijing-based Tsinghua University as 17th in the world. The gradings include around one thousand universities in 85 states and regions across the world.

Tsinghua University has become the first university in China to rank among the top 20 after QS updated the process of evaluation in 2015. Five other Chinese universities have been placed in the top 100 — Peking University (30th), Fudan University (44th), Shanghai Jiao Tong University (59th), Zhejiang University (68th), and University of Science and Technology of China (98th).

UN reveals plans to support Libya in next two years

The United Nations (UN) has unveiled plans to support Libyan institutions and public services in the next two years, the UN Mission in Libya said in a statement Thursday.

"UNDP, UNFPA and UNICEF held a consultative workshop today with key stakeholders and members of the international community over their Country Programmes in Libya for 2019 and 2020," the statement said, referring to UN Development Program, UN Fund for Population Activities and UN International Children's Emergency Fund. US Secretary of State to visit China following Singapore summit

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will visit Beijing on June 14 to have discussions with Chinese officials on bilateral, regional, and global issues that affect both countries, State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said on Thursday.

Pompeo will travel to Singapore on June 10-13, where he will participate in US President Donald Trump's summit with Democratic People's Republic of Korea's leader Kim Jong-un. 

Pompeo will then travel to Seoul on June 13–14 before travelling to Beijing. (China Daily)

Chinese medical team launches free infant & maternal health care project in Sierra Leone

A Chinese medical team from Hunan province in China arrived in Sierra Leone’s capital Freetown to offer free medical care to children, pregnant and lactating women. The team joined their colleagues at Jui China-Sierra Leone Friendship hospital where they would offer the free service.

Team Leader of the Chinese Medics while giving a brief historical background of medical support from China, noted that since 1973 China has sent volunteer medical staff to attend to the needs of Sierra Leonean patients which has helped promote bilateral relations.
