China to reduce cancer drug prices

China moves to reduce prices of anti-cancer drugs.

A health official says the government plans to reduce prices of those drugs through centralized negotiations and procurement.

Last year, the government and drug companies agreed on the prices of 36 anti-cancer drugs on the medical insurance list.

The official says prices of these drugs have been lowered by 44 percent. (Xinhua)

Hong Kong marks 21st anniversary of its return to China

The government of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region remains firm on the fundamental principle of "One Country" and "major issues of right and wrong" during the past year.

That's according to Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam.

She says her government has shown zero tolerance on behavior that challenges the country’s bottom line.

Joint rescue mission for young footballers trapped in Thailand cave still underway

A missing soccer team remains trapped in a cave in Thailand.

This, as the search entered its ninth day.

A group of Thai and Australian divers have dug three kilometers into the cave.

Rescuers believe the children are trapped in Pattaya Beach.

That's several kilometers from the cave's entrance. (Xinhua)

Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador wins Mexican presidential election

Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador of the National Regeneration Movement wins Mexico's presidential election.

Projections show him winning over 53 percent of the vote.

His main rivals admitted defeat not long after the polls closed on Sunday.

President Enrique Peña Nieto congratulated Lopez Obrador, promising to work with him in transition.

US President Donald Trump also tweeted to congratulate Lopez Obrador on "becoming the next President of Mexico.” (CGTN)

Chinese yuan strengthens to 6.6157 against US dollar on Monday

China's currency has bounced back against the US dollar.

The renmimbi gained 9 basis points to close at 6.6157 to the US dollar on Monday.  

China's spot foreign exchange market allows the yuan to rise or fall by two percent from the central parity rate each trading day.

The central parity rate of the yuan against the US dollar is based on a weighted average of prices offered by market makers before the opening of the interbank market each business day. (Xinhua)

Four dead, hundreds evacuated as torrential rains hit Romania

And days of torrential rain in Romania have claimed four lives and forced more than 250 people from their homes.

High waters swept away two men and a woman, while a fourth person was crushed when flooding caused her home to collapse.

Flooding affected around 100 towns across Romania, washing away bridges and destroying dozens of homes. (AFP)
