Trump invitation of Putin stuns US intel head
Tensions are rising between US National Intelligence director Dan Coats and the White House.
This after he was stunned to hear the news that US President Donald Trump wants Russian President Vladimir Putin to visit the White House this fall.
White House political aides told the Washington Post that Coats went “rogue” in the interview and didn’t understand the role of intelligence.

EU, Mexico automakers blast Trump auto tariff plan
The Trump administration comes under fire from automakers and foreign governments as officials consider imposing tariffs of up to 25 percent on imported cars and parts.
Hundreds of workers employed by foreign automakers rallied on Capitol Hill, urging the administration to drop the plans.
A bipartisan group of 150 lawmakers signed a letter urging the administration to drop the plans amid the opposition of groups representing nearly all major automakers, dealers, parts companies and retailers.

China offshore yuan above 6.8
China’s currency continues to slide against the US dollar.
The renminbi dropped 605 basis points to close at 6.7671 against the US dollar.
It was the biggest one-day drop since June 2016.
China's spot foreign exchange market allows the renminbi to rise or fall by two percent from the central parity rate each trading day.

South Korean court sentences Park Geun-hye to eight years in jail
A South Korean court sentences ex-president Park Geun-hye to eight years in prison for illegally taking funds from the state spy agency and interfering in elections during her term in office.
Park is already serving a 24-year jail sentence following a court decision on April 6.

11 people dead after Missouri tourist boat accident
At least 11 people were killed after a tourist boat capsized on a lake in Missouri.
A local newspaper quoted the Stone County sheriff as saying a Ride the Ducks tourist boat sank on Table Rock Lake with more than 30 people on board.
He says the weather had caused the boat to capsize.
Recovery efforts were ongoing, with some passengers still unaccounted for.

Japanese man gets 23 years for killing Chinese sisters
The Yokohama District Court of Japan sentences a man to 23 years in jail for the murder of two Chinese sisters.
The man denied the charges, saying he was only "doing the sisters a favor.”
The bodies of the sisters were discovered in a suitcase in a Japanese forest.
Prosecutors said that the man "had committed a planned and extremely violent crime" and demanded that he be sentenced to death.

British Museum's new Tmall shop enjoys immediate success
And the British Museum recently opened an online store on Chinese e-commerce platform Tmall.
That put it in competition with the Palace Museum on the platform, which has successfully been selling souvenirs.
The store sells handbags, moon-shaped fans, mobile phone shells and other items with various themes, including an Egyptian pharaoh.
Some of the items have reportedly been sold out.
