Chinese to spend 45 bln USD escaping summer heat: report
Chinese tourists are expected to spend more than 300 billion yuan (45 billion U.S. dollars) this summer on travel to escape the heat.
A report by China Tourism Academy and ctrip.com estimated that about 500 million trips will be made to escape the hot weather in July and August.
That’s about 10 percent of all domestic trips in 2018.
The report said the likely destinations are seaside and lakeside towns and mountainous regions. (Xinhua)

Trump, EU's Juncker agree to ease trade tensions
US President Donald Trump and European Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker agree to defuse the trade dispute between the two major economies.
The agreement means Washington will not follow through with a threat to impose tariffs on autos, which would hurt the dominant German car industry.
They also said they would work to resolve existing duties on steel and aluminum imposed by Washington.
The outcome seems a victory for Trump, who had assured supporters that his confrontational trade strategy would bear fruit. (AFP)

44 airlines make changes to Taiwan reference on websites
Forty-four foreign airlines changed the way they refer to Taiwan on their websites.
This, as the Civil Aviation Administration of China asked them to change their websites to list Taiwan as part of China ahead of a Wednesday deadline.
Four American airlines, United Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and Hawaiian Airlines informed the CAAC on Wednesday they have revised their websites and will complete their updates in two weeks. (People's Daily app)

Outcome of Pakistan's election results slows down as software crashes
Tensions rise as the results of Pakistan's general elections show down due to failure of the transfer of vote counts.
Pakistan’s Result Transfer System is an online software designed to transfer the votes counted from polling stations to the election headquarters.
The election commissioner has ordered all the polling officers to manually transfer the results to district control rooms.

3 missing after S. Korean fishing boats collide off Japan's Hokkaido
Three Indonesian crew members are unaccounted for after two South Korean fishing boats collide off Hokkaido on Thursday.
One of the two fishing boats sank after the collision, and 35 of its 38 crew members were rescued by nearby fishing vessels.
Reports say all of the three missing crew members were Indonesian, while the other crew members were either South Korean or Indonesian. (AFP)
