US Fed to join ranks of other central banks in stimulating economy
The Federal Reserve is set to rejoin central banks worldwide that are easing access to credit to keep growth from faltering.
President Donald Trump, whose aggressive trade policies have thrown a wrench into the world economy and complicated the Fed's carefully laid plans, will certainly cheer a rate cut and likely call for more, as he has been doing for months.
Economists, however, are torn.
Many say the US economy does not need additional stimulus.
But others say the Fed is right to retreat for now. (AFP)

Work-related illnesses higher than reported
China has charted more than 970,000 cases of occupational diseases since records began, but the actual number of employees affected by work-related illnesses is much higher, a senior health official said on Tuesday.
The underreported data is largely thanks to low rates of health screenings designed to detect conditions arising from workplace activities, as well as flaws in the country's employment system, said Wu Zongzhi, director of the National Health Commission's occupational health department.
About 28,000 new cases of occupational illnesses - with black lung disease accounting for the majority - are diagnosed in the country each year, bringing the total number of available cases to 975,000 as of the end of 2018, Wu said. (China Daily)
