China seeks WTO dispute settlement over US safeguard measures, subsidies

China begins the World Trade Organization dispute settlement procedure over US safeguard measures on imported photovoltaic products and subsidies for its renewable energy products.

China says its move is necessary to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests and multilateral trade rules.

The US has imposed additional tariffs of up to 30 percent on some photovoltaic imports. (Xinhua)

Trump's 'dog' slur adds fuel to explosive Omarosa row

The spat between US President Donald Trump and former White House staffer Omarosa Manigault Newman hit a fresh low with the president labeling the one-time aide a "crazed, crying lowlife" and a “dog.”

She has written a tell-all book about her time in the White House, where she was hired by the president as a special adviser on a salary of $180,000.

The book paints Trump as a racist, liar and a "germophobe" with a "total lack of empathy.”(CGTN)

Mainland slams Taiwan history textbooks that 'forget one's origin': official

The Chinese mainland says it is “to forget one’s origin” if Taiwan incorporates Chinese history into its East Asian history in its high school history course.

Taiwan's education authority recently passed the syllabus for its high school history course.

Its textbooks will incorporate Chinese history into East Asian history, instead of being told along with Taiwan’s history and world history.

A Chinese mainland spokesman says that since the Democratic Progressive Party came to power, they’ve been damaging the political base of mainland-Taiwan relations, and supporting various “Taiwan independence” activities. (People's Daily app)

One dead, 10 injured in restaurant explosion in NE China

At least one person was killed, and 10 others injured after an explosion at a barbecue restaurant in Shenyang, capital city of Northeast China's Liaoning Province.

Located on one of the city's main avenues, the restaurant was being refurbished when the explosion occurred.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the explosion was caused by a liquid gas storage tank, which is commonly used in restaurants for cooking. (CGTN)

Turkey increases tariffs on some US imports

The feud between the US and Turkey continues to heat up.

This, after Turkey announced it is increasing tariffs on imports of certain US products.

Ankara says it’s imposing extra tariffs on rice, vehicles, alcohol, coal and cosmetics.

The Turkish lira has dropped to record lows. (People's Daily app)

45 soldiers killed in Taliban attack on military camp in N. Afghanistan

At least 45 Afghan security force members were killed after Taliban militants stormed a joint military camp in northern Baghlan province.

There was no immediate comment from the ministry of defense.

But officials said nine police and 35 soldiers were killed in the attack.

It was the latest in a series that have killed dozens of members of the security forces in provinces across Afghanistan. (CGTN)

China welcomes scheduled DPRK-ROK summit

And China welcomes the scheduled summit between South Korea and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

Beijing says it hopes the talks run smoothly and achieve positive results.

The summit is scheduled to be held in Pyongyang next month.
