China's revised regulation allows foreigner workers to trade A-shares

Good news for foreigners working in China. China‘s Securities Regulatory Commission says they can set up their own A-share accounts. Foreigners from a country whose securities regulators have ties with the CSRC may also apply for an A-share account. The new regulations take effect on September 15. (People's Daily App)

HK, Macao, Taiwan residents eligible for mainland residence permit

Residents of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan can apply for a mainland residence permit for better public services starting September. That’s according to a new regulation issued by the State Council, China's cabinet. The permit card can be read automatically at electronic terminal devices in railway stations, airports and banks. They can facilitate their studies, work and life on the mainland. Applicants need to live on the mainland for over six months, with a stable job and accommodations. (China Daily)

Floods close airport in Indian tourist hotspot of Kerala

Severe monsoon rain has forced airlines to cancel flights to and from the Indian state of Kerala for three days. At least 39 people have been killed in the past three weeks, with over 50,000 displaced. The state is known for its palm-lined beaches and tea plantations. The storm has damaged or destroyed hundreds of homes and over 10,000 kilometers of roads across the state. (AFP)

Colombia says 19 citizens killed in tourist bus crash

Nineteen of the 24 victims of a fatal tourist bus crash in Ecuador were Colombian. Fourteen of the victims have been identified, according to Colombia’s foreign ministry. The identities of four Venezuelans and two Ecuadorians have also been determined. The crash near Quito was believed to have been caused by a brake failure. (AFP)

Russia and Turkey close ranks amid common tensions with the US

Russia and Turkey close ranks amid common tensions with the US. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in Ankara that Turkey and Russia will take steps to "enhance the strategic partnership" between the two countries. He added that Moscow appreciates Turkey's rejection of anti-Russia sanctions by the West, saying the U.S. "unlawful and illegitimate" sanctions policy cannot last for long. The lira tumbled to a historic low on Friday after U.S. President Donald Trump authorized a 20 and 50 percent tariff hike, respectively, on imported Turkish aluminum and steel. (Xinhua-AFP)

China’s national flag raised at the 2018 Asian Games

China’s sport delegation holds a flag raising ceremony at the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia. They began checking in at the Athletes' Village on Wednesday, followed by the Indonesian delegation and Syrian delegation. So far, 12 countries have checked into the village for the Jakarta Palembang 2018. China will compete at the 2018 Asian Games from August 18 to September 2. (People's Daily App)

Over 1,000 WWII veterans' handprints donated to Chinese private museum

And 1,207 handprints of Chinese World War II veterans were donated to the Jianchuan Museum Cluster. That’s the largest private museum complex in China. The handprints were collected over the past three years by the Hunan provincial committee of the Jiusan Society, Hunan Photographers Association, and a public service organization. The handprints are from surviving soldiers in Hunan who fought during the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. (Xinhua)
