PepsiCo factory in Beijing suspends operation due to confirmed COVID-19 cases

Beijing (People‘s Daily) - “PepsiCo had raised its emergency response level after confirming COVID-19 cases among its employees. The company shut down production in Beijing, disinfected the environment and quarantined personnel, said Fan Zhimin, director of Enterprise Public Affairs of the PepsiCo Greater China Group Affairs Department on Sunday.

As of midnight on June 20, a PepsiCo food factory in Suncun township, Daxing district, Beijing had found eight confirmed cases, two of which were related to the Xinfadi wholesale market. It is reported that the factory mainly produces Lay’s potato chips.

The first confirmed case at the factory appeared on June 15. Operation and production were immediately suspended on the same day. All employees were asked to self-quarantine at home and tested for COVID-19.  

A total of 480 individuals linked to the confirmed cases of the factory were placed under centralized quarantine and asked to undergo nucleic acid tests on Saturday. All results have come back negative.

The Center for Disease Control of Daxing District had sampled and tested both the internal and external environment of the Pepsi Foods Beijing factory on June 16, and all results were negative.

The company had carried out a comprehensive disinfection of its canteen, dressing rooms, hand washing areas, toilets, and assembly line work areas on June 15 and June 20.
