The musical Phantom of the Opera will be produced in Mandarin within five years.

Shanghai Media Group and Britain's The Really Useful Group announced Thursday that they would jointly produce the Chinese version.

A TV talent show will select the cast for the musical.

Sarah Brightman, who played heroine of the musical Christine in the original version, will be a judge on the show, which is planned for 2020.

The English version of the musical will return to China in 2020.

Composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, The Phantom of the Opera opened in London's West End in 1986. It has been staged in more than 30 countries and regions across the world and is one of the longest running shows in Broadway history.
