A Chinese military spokesperson on Monday confirmed multiple warships and military jets patrolled around the island of Taiwan recently, stressing the exercise is part of Chinese military’s regular arrangement and for cross-Straits peace and stability.

The patrol was undertaken by the Eastern Theater Command of China’s Liberation Army (PLA), involving vessels, bombers and reconnaissance aircraft which circled the island in the drill, said Zhang Chunhui, spokesman of the theater command, in a statement released via social media.

The drill examined the integrated combat capability of multiple forces, and is the legitimate right of a sovereign country, the statement said.

The spokesman also said the patrol is also conducive to cross-Straits peace and stability and the theater command will unwaveringly defend China's national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
