Six confirmed cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Qingdao City, east China's Shandong Province as of Sunday night, the municipal health commission said, adding that six asymptomatic cases had also been detected.

It comes after the discovery of three asymptomatic cases on early Sunday associated with the Qingdao Chest Hospital, which has set up independent areas for treating COVID-19 cases from overseas.

The commission said the new cases were also "highly linked" to the hospital, including patients and carers.

The local government has vowed to roll out city-wide virus testing.
