The Chinese Embassy in Russia has clarified reports by some we-media that Moscow police were using violent law enforcement against 80 Chinese citizens and detaining them with no justified reasons were not based on facts.

These Chinese nationals involved were suspected of going against Russia's 14-day self-quarantine regulations amid the country's COVID-19 epidemic control efforts, said the embassy in an article it released on its official WeChat public account on Sunday.

According to the embassy, the self-quarantine regulations stipulate that long-term residents, including overseas students, should undergo a 14-day quarantine after their arrival in Russia from China. The regulations apply  to people from all nations.

The embassy said it has found no evidence to back up the claim that Moscow police had mistreated the 80 Chinese who are now under quarantine at designated facilities.

Police had also put Russian citizens and people from other countries under quarantine along with the 80 Chinese nationals, who only made up around one-third of the total under medical observation, the embassy said.

Embassy officials have visited the quarantine facilities and sent the Chinese nationals daily necessities including food and fruit, and asked the Russian side to provide good quarantine conditions for them.
