An evening fire in a residential area in Shantou, Guangdong Province on Saturday killed five people and injured eight others, city authorities reported on Sunday.

Shantou police said they arrested a man surnamed Zheng, 54, of suspected arson.

Casualties were sent to hospital for emergency treatment.
