Ma Lifen, a native of Shuiteng village in Shunde, Guangdong province, usually takes her two sons to a nearby community service center on weekends.

While she is browsing about cooking techniques online, her sons read books at the center.

"It has become my routine to take my kids here to do some reading," she said.

The community service center of Shuiteng village, which was put into operation in 2018, includes a number of facilities, providing services in sports, reading, cooking, calligraphy and music for village residents.

The center opens on every Tuesday and Thursday evening and the weekends, according to Deng Jiawen, a volunteer at the community center.
