In a public letter from JD.com founder Richard Liu, the Chinese billionaire apologized to his wife, family, and colleagues for his actions as it was announced today that rape charges would not be filed against him.

On Friday afternoon, after Hennepin County prosecutors announced that rape charges would not be filed, Liu released his apology on Chinese social media that said, "The outcome proves that I did not break any laws from beginning to end."

Liu was arrested on August 31 after a college student from the University of Minnesota claimed that he raped her.

Liu said he had been unable to defend himself against the misleading information that had spread online, and refrained from responding so as not to interfere with the formal investigation.

"I have nobody to blame but myself," he said, adding that he was filled with deep regret and that he had told his wife everything that had happened on the night of August 31.

"I will do everything I can to make up for the trauma this has caused my family and to regain my wife's trust," he said.

Liu went on to praise his colleagues at Jingdong who have endured public scrutiny since the allegations were announced.  He urged the public not to pass judgment against them based on his actions alone.

Liu said, "The only thing I can do for them is to work harder and work with them to help make the company develop even better so they can live a better life."
