SACETA appoints new business leaders in Johannesburg

JohannesburgPeople's Daily— The South Africa-China Economic and Trade Association (SACETA) held a general assembly to discuss the organization’s leadership change and commemorate the 5th council at the Sandton Convention Center in Johannesburg, South Africa on Friday.

Assembly members appointed the African Bureau of the State Grid to lead the association and the Bank of China Johannesburg branch as executive vice president.

People's Daily Online - South Africa was selected for the secretary-general general role. Sinosteel South Africa and 22 enterprises and vice presidents were on hand.  

Over 200 people, including the Chinese ambassador to South Africa Lin Songtian, and other high-ranking embassy officials and representatives were at the meeting.

Wang Wen'an, with the State Grid, said during his address they will serve as a bridge to strengthen ties  with South Africa, seize opportunities for key projects, and promote the work of the association at a new level.

Lin congratulated the newly elected president and council members and said China-Africa relations are experiencing a "golden harvest.”

“Chinese enterprises in South Africa should seize the opportunity to strengthen exchanges and cooperation to promote a win-win cooperation of China-South Africa relationship,” said Lin.

Lin praised SACETA’s recent efforts in providing disaster relief in Natal, South Africa as it demonstrated the responsibility of Chinese-funded enterprises and was welcomed by the local community.

Founded in 2011, SACETA has attracted more than 140 Chinese-funded institutions, covering finance, minerals, energy, infrastructure, equipment manufacturing, transportation and logistics, communication services, culture and media, agriculture and aquaculture, and has branches in Cape Town, Durban, and Mandela Bay, among others.
