Shanghai Cafe offers special ‘bear claw’ service mode

Customers in Shanghai can experience a new coffee service. On a small, inconspicuous gray wall, a bear paw serves coffee and interacts with them. And what is less known is that the staff of this special coffee shop are mostly disabled.

Hinichijou cafe is a special business which test opened on Nov. 15 on the corner of No. 68 Yongkang Street, Shanghai. Customers can scan a QR code hanging on the wall to place an order and the cup will be handed out through an uneven hole by the bear paw. Customers can also interact with "bear claw" while waiting for their hot beverage. The cafe soon reached number one in the coffee rankings on the review website.

The unusual service of the coffee shop has drawn a slew of visitors. Behind the wall hole hides a touching story that the original intention was to help people with body impairments.

As part of a philanthropy project of Hinichijou, the coffee shop aims to providing jobs to the disabled, a volunteer said.

"We have four to five staff in the cafe, mostly disabled, and a deaf-mute shop manager, whose name is Yingying," said one of the founders of "bear claw" cafe. Also, it provides a free cup of special blend coffee to handicapped people with a disability certificate.

Every day, the coffee shop serves many disabled and non-disabled customers, bringing heartwarming service in winter.

Hinichijou cafe officially opened on December 3, which is International Day of Disabled Persons. According to the China Disabled Persons’ Federation, there are more than 85 million people living with disabilities in China. Hinichijou cafe makes a great example for helping disabled people get back to work.
