Shanghai jumps to 4th largest shipping center: index

Shanghai has risen to fourth among the world’s top international shipping centers, according to the latest rankings of an international shipping center index. 

The latest Xinhua-Baltic International Shipping Centre Development Index shows Singapore, Hong Kong, and London as the top three global international shipping centers.

The index tracks the relative strength of ports and professional service of key maritime hubs around the world, covering the aspects of port conditions, shipping service, and comprehensive environment. 

The index showed that six out of the ten top global shipping centers are from Asia, three are from Europe, and one is from North America.

The index said Shanghai relies on its rapid development and modernization of the shipping system and services Shanghai set a three-year plan to boost its shipping and trade system to be one of the world’s top shipping centers.
