The Shanghai Sports Bureau has published an official response to speculation the city will bid to host the 2032 Summer Olympics:

Recently, the online publicity of our bureau’s Feasibility study on bidding for the 2032 Summer Olympic Games attracted the attention of some media and netizens. We note that some media misread this information and speculated on it subjectively, leading to public discussion about Shanghai bidding for the Olympic Games.

According to the 13th Five-Year Plan for the Sports Reform and Development of Shanghai, we are attempting to build Shanghai into a world-class “sports city.” Since this year, we have started a study of the Shanghai sports event system to achieve this goal. The feasibility study on bidding for the Summer Olympic Games is one of the studies on this hierarchical grading of Shanghai sports events, which belongs to the basic research of constructing the event system.

We hope that the media and the vast number of netizens do not over-interpret this study. Thank you all for your continuing concern and support for Shanghai's sports cause.
