Shanghai sees highest temperature in early March in 86 years

The temperature in downtown Shanghai jumped to 23.5 degrees Celsius on Sunday, the highest on the same day in 86 years.

A record temperature for this day in downtown Shanghai was 24.8 degrees Celsius in 1932, according to the Shanghai weather bureau.

The warm weather was followed by a thunderstorm in the metropolis on Sunday evening.

The city's temperature was forecast to fall to only 11 degrees Celsius on Monday, said the bureau.
