The city government of Shenzhen is demanding Canadian authorities immediately release Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou.

In an official statement, the city said it is keeping a close watch on the issue, and demands Canada clarify the reasons for the arrest of Meng.

“They must release Ms Meng immediately, to guarantee her legitimate rights, and restore her personal liberty,” the statement read.

“We will closely follow developments and assist Shenzhen-based companies like Huawei to protect their legitimate rights domestically and abroad.”

Meng was arrested while transferring in Vancouver on December 1. The arrest was at the request of US authorities.
