After 12 hours of scaling, six members of a Chinese survey team laid a cable route to the summit of Mount Qomolangma (Everest), the world's highest peak, on Tuesday. Other team members who are going to measure the altitude of the summit have reached the camp at an altitude of 8,300 meters.
The road construction group is crucial for the following surveying team to reach the top.
The road builders need to climb on ice and rocks unprotected, and avoid ice crevasses and other hidden dangers to create a safe route for guides, collaborators and climbers.
Starting April 30, this is the seventh round to determine the height of Qomolangma since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949.
The height of the peak was released twice as 8,848.13 meters and 8,844.43 meters in 1975 and 2005, respectively.
